MIC
Combating of MIC bacteria in water.
MIC is caused by bacteria that, due to the use of sulphur, make steel components corrode quickly. Research into MIC corrosion is performed by TNO, amongst others. More information about this can be found in this TNO brochure.
Ultrasound can effectively combat these bacteria found in the water column, as concluded in a study performed by the University of Utrecht, called “ultrasound as a method of sterilisation”. This study determined that “Bacteria are, generally speaking, eliminated extremely effectively by sonication and cavitation” (page 26).
